Discovered by chance in 1865, the Barbarossa Cave is now just one of two anhydrite caves in the world. The beauty of this gigantic 15,000 square-meter cave lies in the multi-faceted and fantastic play of color on the rock, which sometimes takes on highly unusual shapes. The vast hollow spaces are further enhanced by the crystal-clear, shimmering greenish-blue lakes that vividly reflect the strange formations on the ceilings. Don't forget that Barbarossa found his place here too. In the ballroom at the venerable stone table and chair, you can sense the myth of the emperor slumbering in the Kyffhäuser hills.

The cave belongs to the municipality Kyffhäuserland OT Rottleben in the Kyffhäuser district of Thuringia.
