The Kelbra reservoir, the largest lake in the region, is located at the foot of the Kyffhäuser hills. It is a man-made retaining basis for flood protection which covers about 600 hectares. The normal volume of dammed water is 12.3 million cubic meters; mean depth is about 3.45 meters and the deepest point is about 5.5 meters.

Directions From the north, from Göttingen/Nordhausen or Halle/Leipzig, via A38 to the Berga exit, then on B85 to Kelbra. From the south use the B85 over Kyffhäuser to Kelbra.
Opening times 15 May to 15 September: daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The beach remains closed in inclement weather. On especially hot days, the beach can be used until 8 p.m.
