The Göllingen monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Thuringia, was run by Benedictine monks from 992 to 1606. The remains of the church include the western tower, crypt, parts of the apse and parts of the south wall of the chancel.

Göllingen is part of the municipality Kyffhäuserland in Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis. Göllingen lies in the Wipper valley between the ridges of the Windleite and Hainleite hills, not far from Sondershausen.
