The Kyffhäuser Trail runs for 37 kilometers in three legs through the Kyffhäuser Mountains. It has been tested by the German hiking association and awarded the quality seal "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland". The Kyffhäuser Trail is distinguished by the following qualities:
One of the treasures in the Kyffhäuser Nature Park is the wetlands, made up of the Golden Aue with Kelbra Reservoir and the Esperstedter Ried. More than 300 different bird species use this area as feeding, resting or breeding grounds.
In addition to all the birds, you can also find semi-natural inland salt marshes here. Plants which otherwise are found only on European seashores thrive in this environment.
